A traineeship is a course with work experience that gets you ready for work or an apprenticeship.
It can last between 6 weeks to 6 months.
You can apply if you are:
- eligible to work in England
- unemployed and have little or no work experience
- aged 16 to 24 and qualified below Level 3

What are Traineeships?
Traineeships are short periods of training and work experience designed for students who are not yet ready to take an Apprenticeship or start work.
Motivated and keen to get into the workplace to begin building a career.
A school leaver aged 16 - 24 (inclusive) and are qualified below Level 3 (equivalent of 2 A levels at Grades A-C)
Think you will be ready for employment within 6 months of completing a traineeship.
Traineeships are designed to give you the confidence to take that first step in kick starting your career and to become work ready.
Traineeships are all about preparation - preparing you for the world of work. If you are a school leaver and have been knocked back at interview or at application stage, for jobs or apprenticeships because you have little or no experience, then that experience can be gained by doing a traineeship.
Attend a quality work placement - from 6 weeks to 6 months with a local employer
Receive mentoring and feedback - regular updates and reviews on your progress and performance
Gain academic assistance - support to improve your maths and English
Have a meaningful programme completion - an exit interview, action plan and the opportunity for continued support for your next steps
You will get:
- a work experience placement
- help with English and maths (if you need it)
- support to achieve an employability qualification
- access to additional courses
